Happy WW~ Vernal Falls Hiking Trip

Posted by La Mama Naturale' under Recycling

A big thank you to Mr. Porter who sent us these photos!! We’re so grateful.

We started on the trail at about 8AM. We rode our bikes up to the trail head from a designated parking lot and once we reached the bike rack I realized we’d left the camera behind. We were determined to get the hike done so we didn’t let the camera issue stop us. I figured we could find someone willing to take our picture once we reached the top. Off we went! The trail is 1.5 miles. 3 miles round trip. The trail itself is mainly uphill and flat in some parts. As we made our way up Tristan and Clark both fell asleep. Tristan was in the Kelty backpack and Clark was in the Ergo. As you get closer to the waterfall it becomes misty and the trail path turns into steps that lead up to the top. We didn make it to the top of Vernal Falls but we made it just before the stair climb up! The mist from the falls would have made the last of the stair climb a bit nerve wracking especially carrying with kids! We received a lot of attention because we had kids and someone even commented “unnecessary cargo, don’t ya think?” Well, no-that was the whole point! When we reached the spot where we were going to call it quits I felt a huge sense of accomplishment. I hadn’t felt that way in so long. The whole way bag I was grinning from ear to ear. We’d do it again WITH KIDS in a heartbeat. We do have plans in the future to climb Half Dome sans kids. That’s way, way, out in the future though! It’s definitely on my list along with Mt. Whitney.
