Film makers Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, the creative minds behind King Corn and The Greening of Southie are proving that you can garden anywhere with their mobile garden planted in the bed of their 1986 Dodge Ram pickup.
Well, someone has to do it. From the land down under comes the world’s hyper-miling champions (although they don’t like that term). John and Helen Taylor just broke their own record by averaging 67.9 miles per gallon in their 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI diesel. (Yes, Virginia, diesels can sometimes top hybrids in fuel economy).
Old-style 100-watt light bulbs will be banned in Europe’s shops next week in favor of new energy-saving models, but consumer groups on Wednesday gave the move a guarded welcome. From Sept. 1, 100-watt versions of the old incandescent bulbs will be banned from Europe’s shops and other bulbs with lower wattage will follow in the ensuing years, under a system agreed upon by European Union experts last December.
